The Columbia Chronicle:
'It's the Coronavirus, Not the Chinese Virus'
This issue was published Febuary 17, 2020. As staff member of The Columbia Chronicle's graphic design team, we were tasked designing an issue for the ensuing COVID-19 pandemic. Under a tight deadline, I was designated the job of creating the issue's front cover. Within a forty-eight hour period, I was able to complete this illustration with the aid of Procreate and InDesign. This particular issue later received the 2020 Illinois Student Press award for Best Design.
'In the 2020 election, media literacy is key'
In an op-ed by writer Camilla Forte, the issue concerns decentralized information that proliferates throughout the internet and alternative news sources. An anecdote about Forte observing people checking their phones on public transit stood out in the piece. I knew this would be ideal for a spot illo.
As usual, this work was completed with close guidance and feedback from the writer and my team of editors. Rendered with Procreate and Photoshop.
